I was in Chelan a few weeks ago and saw the sign in the first photo. After close inspection, the "ALT" tab below the US 97 sheild looks newer than the sign, like it was added later. I'll bet this sign dates from before 1987, when US 97 mainline was moved to the east side of the river, and WSDOT thought it would be easier to slap an "ALT" sticker on the sign rather than make a new sign. By the way, there is an identical sign for northbound US 97 ALT around the corner.

Just some random trivia....I believe the reason that spur road is signed is because the original Spirit Lake Highway followed the current 'spur' down along the river. After Mt. St. Helens blew the new 504 was built up on higher ground such that flooding from the sediment dam wouldn't interfere with the highway.

US 101 is signed wierdly. It is signed NORTH from Olympia to the juction with SR 20, WEST from SR 20 to the junction with SR 113, and SOUTH from there to the Oregon border. But what your pictures show is that there is a 101 WEST shield at MP 231.82, a SOUTH shield at MP 211.02, and then a WEST one again at MP 208.86. IT DOES NOT MAKE SENSE, WSDOT!!!

The reassurance shield at MP 33.66 looks like one formatted for a three-digit U.S. highway. An erroneous sign...?

Yes, I'm fully aware of this and have been using SRWeb for all milepost numbers

I was unable to get a clear photo of the actual terminus due to a camera malfunction

Acutally, SR 542 continues to the right at the chairlift and winds up the mountain for another three miles to the parking lot at vista point. This part of the road is only open from April to October, though.

Cameron Frazer

P.S. One website that might help with the routing and termini of the highways is WSDOT's SRWeb (http://www.srview.wsdot.wa.gov/home.htm).

Oh very nice catch. Yes that should say SR 270 west. I'm not sure how I missed that one. I'll get it in the erroneous signage section with the next update. Thank you
